Hi, I'm Janet
I got hooked on yoga at a very young age. And I didn’t even know I was hooked. From the moment I watched my mother's yoga practice unfold on our living room floor to taking my first class in 1974, I was captivated and intrigued. By the time I turned 17, the seed was planted.
I’ve been teaching yoga since 2004 and since then, logged over 5400 teaching hours. My teaching style is greatly influenced by yoga therapy. I offer a variety of options including beginner yoga, vinyasa flow, yoga nidra, restorative yoga, and somatics. Each class includes a strong foundation in asana (postures) and pranayama (breath) and always conclude with savasana (deep relaxation). As a yoga therapist I offer specifically designed programs tailored to the individual that will address the person as they are, given their condition and current constraints. I strive to create a safe, compassionate space for my students where they can connect to movement, breath & stillness.
The thing about yoga is that it gives us a chance to start with the body. As we stretch, move and breathe we begin to access deeper levels of awareness. At times we reach places of awareness that we never knew we had. This can open pathways of healing and clear vision. Listening to our own breath, to our own heartbeat and connecting to our own essential goodness is part of the experience of yoga.
When I’m not teaching you’ll find me spending time in nature. Either hands in the soil working on our gardens, hiking up a mountain or kayaking on a lake. I am grateful and blessed to be able to take my summers off where I spend time on our farm in Connecticut.
