Time to Spring Ahead

It's time to spring ahead with our clocks this weekend, as we welcome in more evening light.  Hooray!  Bring yoga into your springtime routine. Monday evening classes at the Mt. Lebanon Christian Church are on-going and pre-registration is not required. Please note, there will be no class on March 18 & 25.   Class will resume on April 1.

Streaming Option on Zoom

The Monday evening class is offered as a hybrid option. It's your choice, in person or livestreaming on Zoom from 7 - 8:15 PM.  The hybrid is a nice option on those cold winter nights when you want to practice with community, but would like to do it at home, in your PJ's of course!. :))

Monday evening class returns on January 8

Monday evening Slow Flow yoga will return to the Mt. Lebanon Christian Church located at 367 Cedar Blvd in Mt. Lebanon. Our first class of the new year is January 8, 2024. Class time is 7-8:15 pm.  Please note, there is no class on March 25. These classes will be in session through May 20, 2024. Walk-ins are welcome and pre-registration is not required.

Mt. Lebanon Recreation Center Classes

I have some important news to share. After 20 years of teaching yoga at the Mt. Lebanon Recreation Center, I'm announcing my official retirement. It has been a great run and I've enjoyed every minute of it. Many of you have been coming to my Rec Center classes for a good part of those 20 years and it feels like family. But everything has a season, and for me, it's time to move on and make room for others. I will continue to teach my Monday evening class at the Mt. Lebanon Christian Church, located at 367 Cedar Blvd.  Additionally, you can always enjoy Janet Tant yoga classes through the Monthly Subscription Program or private sessions.

There will be no Monday evening yoga on November 13, 20 and 27. Classes to resume on December 4.  Our last Monday evening class of the year will be on December 11. Wishing everyone a safe and restful holiday season.

Class Cancellations

Please note the following schedule changes:
There will be no Monday evening class at the Mt. Lebanon Christian Church on October 23.  Classes will resume on October 30.
The next session at the Mt. Lebanon Recreation Department, October 31- December 5 has been cancelled.  I’m sorry for this change, however Monday evening classes are still being offered at the Mt. Lebanon Christian Church.

Yoga Classes Return After Summer Break

Labor Day is around the bend. And that means that Janet Tant Yoga classes are back in session. I'll be teaching a new class at the Mt. Lebanon Recreation Center beginning Tuesday, September 5, from 1-2:15 PM  called Slow Meditative Flow. This all levels class consists of a breath centering warm up, and then a wide range of gentle standing and seated postures designed to increase strength, balance, and flexibility.

Monday evening classes return to the Mt. Lebanon Christian Church on September 11 from 7-8:15 PM. Something new this year…I'll be offering a streaming option on Zoom for this class. Now you can practice in the comfort of your home or in person, it's your choice! Head on over to the Classes page for more details.

Yoga Nidra

It's that time of year when Janet Tant yoga classes get ready to go on to summer break. Our last class, at all locations will be a special practice of Yoga Nidra.  
This soothing session will begin with gentle movements that help untangle chronic patterns of tension and holding in the body. From there, we'll move onto our backs for a mini version of Yoga Nidra. This ancient technique is a systematic process of deep relaxation that can help remove stress and internal tension.
My last Tuesday afternoon classes at the Mt Lebanon Recreation Center will be on May 2. My last Monday evening class at the Mt Lebanon Christian church will be on May 22. This special Yoga Nidra class is open to all at both locations and regular class pricing applies. I hope you can join me!

Monday Evening Class is ON for May 8

Monday evening yoga classes (aka bedtime yoga!) continue at the Mt. Lebanon Christian Church through May 22. Class meets every Monday from 7 - 8:15 PM. The class that was originally cancelled for May 8 is back on again. The church is located at 367 Cedar Blvd in Mt. Lebanon.  Walk-ins are welcome and pre-registration is not required. This is a Slow Flow class to include breath, stretch and balance.  It will help unwind the tensions of the day, getting us ready for a good night's sleep.

New session for Tuesday classes

New session begins at the Mt. Lebanon Recreation Center on March 7.  There will be no class on the days of the Senior Luncheon*.  Moving Meditation is at Noon and Afternoon Slow Flow is at 1:15PM. Pre-registration is required if purchasing the  session.  Walk-ins are always welcome.

Practicing Contentment in 2023

It’s the new year.  The hustle and bustle is behind us.  For many, the holidays can leave us feeling depleted and frazzled, especially during a time of year when nature is asking us to rest.  I find the best antidote is settling in to the spirit of contentment.  This may seem odd at a time of the year when we’re asked to set new goals.  But from a yogi’s perspective, contentment is a noble goal. It’s the ability to remain centered and peaceful no matter what is happening.
Santosha, the second niyama of the five niyamas of yoga, is generally translated to mean contentment. Contentment can be thought of as a state of acceptance, balance, and being at ease, no matter what life dishes up.   
Cultivating a breath practice that focuses on our exhalation is an excellent way to experience contentment. Lingering in the space after the exhale, we find there is no need to rush, no need to get somewhere or do something. It’s a welcome pause where we can just be, where we can feel the inward pull of contentment.  Now that’s a goal to embrace any time of the year.

Winter Break

Practice of Light

As we get ready to wind down our classes for 2022 please join me for a Practice of Light. This nyasa practice will make a connection to the light that is outside of us, as well as the light that is inside of us. The teachings say "this is the light that is beyond all sorrow." I'll be teaching this practice in my Mt. Lebanon Rec Center classes on Tuesday, December 6 and at the Mt Lebanon Christian Church on Monday, December 12. Regular class pricing applies. In Person Classes Return

I'm happy to announce that I'm finally returning to in-person classes this September. It's been a long time and I can't wait to see your smiling faces in person again!  It's just like Joni Mitchell says, "You don't know what you got til it's gone." I missed our time together so being on our mats again is reason for celebration.  September is a time when new beginnings and new journeys can take shape.  Let's breathe, stretch and rest together.  Check out the details on my “Classes” page. My teaching schedule is getting ready to wind down for the summer. Livestream classes will continue through the week of May 16. My last class is May 20. After that I’ll be on summer break. Look for an announcement in mid-September on where and when I’ll be teaching for the fall.

Free Community Livestream Class

All classes are back in session beginning the week of January 10. Let’s welcome in 2022 together with a class on Monday, January 10 from 7-8:15 PM. This is a Slow Flow practice that will be offered on Zoom as a free class. All are welcome! Advanced reservations are required. New students will be requested to complete a waiver prior to attending. Please register no later than one hour prior to class time. This class will have its own special Zoom link. Students with a current class card will use the special link for the January 10 class only. Upon receiving your reservation the special “one time” Zoom link will be forwarded to your email. Please share this invitation with others.

Give the Gift of Yoga

Looking for a holiday gift idea for someone special? Why not give the gift of yoga this season? I'm offering several different gift ideas but things can be packaged up anyway that you would like.

Live stream yoga class card - $48 for 6 live stream classes. This card never expires. Classes are offered Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Each class has a different focus. Modifications are offered so as to make classes available to all levels. No reservations are required. Your gift recipient will receive the Zoom link and can participate in classes that fit their schedule

Monthly subscription program - $20 per month. This program offers twelve yoga classes in a variety of styles. This can be purchased as a one-time $20 gift or on a recurring monthly subscription basis. New content is made available each month. You could purchase just one month of yoga or several months of yoga. It's your call!

Private yoga - from $70 to $90 per session depending on the length and service requested. Purchase a 60-90 minute private session. This can be an individualized session where I work with any number of items. Examples are: reviewing alignment on basic yoga poses, addressing specific musculoskeletal issues like low back and/or shoulder/neck issues, flexibility and beginning meditation.
Other programs include a Reiki session, Yoga Nidra (guided relaxation), Restorative Yoga and Somatics. Let me know what you would like and I will put together a program tailored to your request!
