What is Reiki?

Reiki (pronounced ray’ key) is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is based on the idea that life force energy flows through all of us and is what causes us to be alive.

Many hospitals across the country, including Allegheny General Hospital, have long promoted the use of body, mind and spirit approaches to complement traditional medical treatment and therapy. Read more about the health benefits of Reiki here.

If one’s life force energy is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy. Energy is transferred to the client from the practitioner who moves through a series of standard hand positions. A reiki treatment does not involve any pressure or manipulation of tissues such as with a massage.

Reiki Sessions by Janet Tant

Janet is a certified reiki practitioner in the Usui System at the advanced level, and has been providing sessions since 2006.

Since no two people are exactly alike in their stresses or experiences, each reiki session is a unique experience. Most clients describe their experience as a much-needed moment of rest and relaxation in their hectic life. And while the mind calms, the physical body relaxes.

Reiki is so relaxing that sometimes clients may fall asleep during the session. And that’s fine. Receiving Reiki is a wonderfully passive experience. Your state will shift quite naturally as the session proceeds. Many clients feel the benefits of deep relaxation stays with them well after after the session is over.
